Mrs. Catherine Blount Matthews, 81 of Thomaston died July 17, 2022, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Matthews was born on June 5, 1941, in Thomaston, to the late Roger Lawson Blount and the late Hattie Johnson Blount.  She worked for William Carter Company, Eckerd Drugs and was a babysitter in Thomaston for many years.  She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roland Matthews, brothers, Danny, JT and Troy Blount, sisters, Mary Nunley, and Francis Philpott.

Survivors include her daughters, Pam (Jerry) Boaen of Savannah, Penny (Raymond) Pittman of Thomaston, brothers, Sammy (Voncille) Blount of Thomaston, Roger Blount of Twiggs County, GA, sisters, Brenda (Rev. L.R.) Brock of The Rock, Dorothy (Alfred) Shepard of Warner Robins, Betty Hilton of Thomaston, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Upson Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 21, 2022, from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.
