Obituary

Mr. Dewey Joseph Yarbrough
August 2, 1955 – December 10, 2025

Mr. Dewey Joseph Yarbrough, age 70, of Zebulon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital.

Born in Thomaston on August 2, 1955, Dewey was the son of the late Evelyn Cobb Cromer and Barron Joseph Yarbrough. He grew up with a strong sense of service and community, beginning as a Boy Scout and later graduating from Robert E. Lee High School. His career reflected his lifelong dedication to public service: he served as a Thomaston Police Officer, a deputy with both Spalding and Upson County Sheriff's Offices, a 911 dispatcher, and a member of the Georgia Municipal Association. Dewey also gave his time as a City of Zebulon council member and worked as an investigator for the private attorney offices of Richard Bishoff, Johnny Mostiler, and Dwayne Singleton, as well as the Spalding County District Attorney's Office. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Zebulon.

Dewey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fredrick Dewey and Lillie Brazelton Cobb.

He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: daughters Kelli Huggins (Rusty) of Social Circle and Amy Hadley (Mark Landis) of Milner; grandchildren CJ Huggins (Lexi), Mason Dewey Huggins (Marlee), and Chandler Huggins; and one great-grandchild, Emmy Sue Huggins.

With his larger-than-life personality, Dewey brought joy wherever he went. He loved fishing, hosting fellowship at his river property, poolside gatherings, and any occasion where laughter could be shared. His love for God, family, and friends was the foundation of his life. Known for his servant's heart, Dewey never met a stranger and cared deeply for everyone he encountered. He had a special affection for animals—especially dogs (and DAWGS)—and his witty humor and vibrant spirit will be dearly missed, most of all by "his girls."
