Obituary

Mrs. Doris Hales Pitts, 96 years young of Thomaston Ga, passed away Thursday July 7, 2022 at Riverside Health and Rehab.

Mrs. Pitts was born on April 5, 1926 in Taylor County Ga, to the late Elmer Kent and the late Quillie Foster Kent. She was a 1943 graduate of Butler High School, Butler Ga. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband Robert Hale, her sisters, Mary Posey of Junction City Ga, Grace McAllister of Thomaston, brother, Elmer Kent of Yatesville Ga, and step daughter Barbara Yarbrough of Thomaston.

Mrs. Doris & Mr. Robert operated Flintside Restaurant & Motel on U.S. 19 & U.S. 80 near Flint River for 45 years when they sold and move to Thomaston and enjoyed retirement. After Mr. Robert's death in 1989, she married Rev. Ed. Pitts of Thomaston. They were married for 21 years. Mrs. Doris had no children and his family became hers. Step-daughter, Barbara Yarbrough, deceased, step-grandson, Alan Yarbrough (Kimberli) of Thomaston, and she became "Grandmother" to them and their children. She and Rev. Pitts traveled and had many happy years until his death in 2012.

Mrs. Doris loved china painting. She taught and painted for 40 plus years and had many painting friends. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at Coggins Funeral Home Chapel of Saturday July 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Zion's Chapel Church Cemetery where she was a member for many years. Rev. Andy Cunningham officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
