Mr. Arnold Edward "Ed" Shumate age 90 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Saturday April 16, 2022, at his residence.

Mr. Shumate was born on May 25, 1931, in Upson County, to the late Douglas Edward Shumate, and the late Edna Mae Haygood Shumate Hooten.  He owned and operated Shumate's Meat Processing and served his country in the US Army. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Lora Harris Shumate, brothers and sisters, and great grandson, Kyle Spraggins.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Shumate of Thomaston, son, Edwin Keith Shumate of Georgia, grandchildren, Amanda (Johnny) Greene, Jason Shumate, Quinton (Rachel) Shumate, five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 21, 2022, from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.
