Mrs. Hortense B. Stowe, age 98 of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed peacefully Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Halifax Hospice, Ormond Beach Florida.
The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of South Daytona at 2197 Kenliworth Avenue South Daytona, Florida 32119, on Saturday August 2nd from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held following the family visitation at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida on Friday August 8th, at 11:00 a.m.
Mrs. Stowe was born in Thomaston on October 4, 1926, to the late Otis E. and Gertrude G. Bennett. She was a 1944 graduate with honors of R.E. Lee Institute. She attended Piedmont Nursing School and graduated in 1947 with a Registered Nursing Degree, and later in life, she was certified by the American Medical Association as a Physician's Assistant. While living in Thomaston, she was employed by Dr. R.E. Dallas, and finished her medical career working with Dr. Mac Dallas as a PA. Mrs. Stowe worked with the Georgia State Medical Association and the State of Georgia in establishing the EMS programs for a ten-county area of West Central Georgia. Mrs. Stowe was a member of the First Baptist Church of South Daytona. She loved and enjoyed her friends and family very much.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stowe was preceded in death by her husband, Marion W. "Chuck" Stowe; She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Drake Epting of Colorado Springs, CO; her son, Dennis H. Stowe (Resia) of Ormond Beach, Florida, five grandchildren, Lana Drake Gilbert (Scott), James Stoney Drake (Jennifer), Christa Lynn Hill, Sean M. Stowe, and Mallory S. Oteri (Mike); nine great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
