Mr. Earnest James Daniel Sr., age 88 of Meansville, passed away Saturday November 18, 2023, at his home.  He grew up in Thomaston, son of the late Appleton Preston Daniel Sr., and the late Nellie Free Daniel.  James was a four-year Veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving in the Korean War.  For most of his working life, James was a truck driver.  He worked for Moss Trucking for 15 years and then was self-employed.  He enjoyed dirt track racing.  He drove the purple car, #34 "Rebel Rouser" mostly at the East Alabama Speedway in Phenix City.  Mr. Daniel liked to fish and travel.  He especially enjoyed trips to New Orleans and Destin and being with family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jan Daniel, daughters, Shelia Daniel-Hancock and Diana Daniel-Weaver, his son Jimmy Daniel, his brothers, J.W. Daniel and Frank Daniel, and his sister, Louise Goff.

He is survived by his children, Kay Goodman, Julie (Randy) Teal, David Daniel, Deann Daniel, sisters, Sandy (Calvin) Van Meter, Lil Short, sons-in-law, Lee Hancock, and Tim Weaver, daughter-in-law, Lynn Daniel, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 11:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.
