Mrs. Lorell Smith Dukes, age 89, of Thomaston died Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at her residence.

Born January 27, 1933 in Thomaston, GA to Dewey H. Nix, Sr and Mary Elizabeth Craven Nix.

Lorell grew up in the Crest Community where she attended John H. Thurston Elementary School and then Robert E. Lee High School.  During her life she worked at Thomaston Mills, Goody's and as a seamstress at Sherry Lynn Sewing Factory, until she retired.

She was a homebody and loved spending time with her grandchildren.  She loved working in the yard, taking walks and visiting with her friends.

Lorell was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Clancey Smith; her sisters, Matt Turner and Donnie Giles; her brothers, Dewey H. Jr (Doris), Wiley Amealis (Lavern), Wilbur Travis (Shirley), Melvin and Felton Nix and her Son-in-law, Alfred Wickham.

She is survived by her daughters, Melinda Smith Wickham, Pamela Lynn Baker (Larry); her daughter-in-law, Yong Smith; her grandchildren - Pamela Sue Wilson (Keith), Tabitha Green (Joey), Sherman Baker (Chasity), Russell Baker (Rhonda), Paul Young (Jenny), Ronald Smith (Heather) and James Smith (Adrianna).  Her sister Jean Shook (Paul) and her brother Render Nix (Elaine).

Her great grandchildren, Brooke Holley (Josh), Austin Baker (Jade), Hannah and Kaitlyn Baker, Austin and Cheyenne Young, Jaden Green, Jordyn Ashby-Young, Callie, Averi and Uriah Green, Peyton, Aubrien and Marcus Smith, Sebastian Begley and Madison Sturgill.

Her great great grandchildren, Bracyn Holley and Kennedy Holley and numerous nephews and nieces.

Her grandson, Paul Young, will be speaking and the Officiant will be Neil Anderson.

Pall bearers:  Austin Baker, Tim Craven, Bradley Dawson, Danny Dawson, Clark Day, C. J. Emerson, Tyler Nix and Johnathan Nix.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.
