Mrs. Mary Estelle Echols Maddox, age 97, of Barnesville, died Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Maddox was born on May 25, 1926, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Elijah Echols, and the late Mary Williams Echols.  She was a homemaker and a member of Rock Springs Church.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Taylor Maddox, daughter, Linda Mote, and son, Leroy Smith.

Mary Maddox was the loving mother of six children: Nan Langley, Mildred Degner, Linda Mote, Leroy Smith, Ronnie Maddox, and David Maddox. Mary was the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren. Nan Langley (Ben) blessed her with three grandchildren: Lynn Cunningham (John), Susan Echols (Mike), and Terri Levine (Chris). Mildred Degner's children include Barbara Boyd (Bradley) and Michael Head (Elizabeth). Linda (Jimmy) Mote's children are Marty Mote (Cathy), Allen Mote, Robbie Mote (Tina). Leroy Smith has one daughter, Julie Smith, and David Maddox has three children: Cindi Maddox, Greg Maddox, and Taylor Maddox. Mary's legacy extends to her great-grandchildren, who filled her life with joy and pride. Lynn and John Cunningham's children are John-Michael, Mallory, and Katie Cunningham. Susan and Mike Echols are parents to Kevin and Morgan Echols. Terri and Chris Levine have Brittany, Madison, Bayley, and Cameron Levine. Barbara and Bradley Boyd's children include Jordan and Brandon Boyd (Crystal). Michael and Elizabeth Head's children are Christopher Christian, Madison Lee (Tim), Nathan Head (Alexis), Hannah Head, and Taylor Head. Marty and Cathy Mote's son is Chris Mote. Allen Mote's daughters are Felicia and Beth Mote. Robbie and Tina Mote's children are Little Robbie Mote (Sarah) and Brandon (Jamie) Mote.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at College Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.
