Mrs. Maxine Howard Smith, of Barnesville, age 102, passed away Friday October 8, 2021 at Sunny Grove Assisted Living in Barnesville Ga.

Mrs. Smith was born on May 19, 1919 in Rokford, Illinois, to the late Stanley Howard and to the late Anna Heise.  She served her country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a nurse.  After the military she worked as a nurse anesthetist.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, M.W. "Mickey" Smith.

Survivors include her sons, Rev. David Wallace (Jeanine) Smith of Griffin, Dr. Howard (Glina) Smith of Thomaston, five grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
