Mr. Roy Francis Vaught, a retired detective with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, age 76, of Barnesville, GA, died Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Harborview Health in Thomaston.
Born in 1948 in Shelbyville, IN, Roy lived and worked in Polk County, FL, for more than sixty years. Before his death, he was a resident of Barnesville, GA, for three years. Before joining the PCSO, Roy was an officer with the Haines City Police Department in that county. He retired from PCSO in 2013 after 35 years of service.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, James Albert Vaught and the former Josephine Elizabeth Pinner Vaught, as well as a brother, and sister, James SheRman Vaught, and April Vaught Baker. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Michael Vaught, and daughter-in-law, Amy Vaught.
Mr. Vaught is survived by a brother, Richard Vaught, and his wife, Avis of The Villages, FL, and a sister, Carol Vaught of Tallahassee, FL. He is also survived by his son, Ryan Scott Vaught of Lakeland, FL, several grandchildren, and three generations of nieces and nephews who adored their uncle Roy and will dearly miss him.
The family will have a celebration of life service for Roy at a later date.
