Obituary

Samuel William Coker, Jr., 42, passed away on October 4, 2026.

Sam was born in Thomaston, Georgia, on August 23, 1984, to Samuel William Coker, Sr. and the late Tina Greene Coker. He graduated from Upson-Lee High School in 2002 and later attended Georgia Southern University. He went on to build his career with AECOM, where he was a valued colleague and friend.

Above all, Sam was a devoted husband and father who absolutely adored his children. They were his greatest joy, and the love and pride he felt for them was evident to everyone who knew him. Being a daddy was Sam’s greatest joy and most cherished role. His children were his whole world, and they were woven into nearly every conversation. If you wanted to see Sam’s true smile, it was seeing his children and he was the happiest. Nothing brought him greater happiness than being with his babies, watching them grow, and creating precious memories together. He was also a devoted husband who treasured his family and gave his whole heart to those he loved. His love and devotion touched the lives of everyone blessed to know him. Being a Daddy and husband met his fulfillment in life. He was a true family man.

Sam had a gift for lighting up every room he entered. Rarely without a smile, he had a way of making each person he encountered feel seen, valued, and special. He was kindhearted, warm, genuine, and a friend to so many. His joyful spirit and love for others naturally drew people to him.

He is survived by his wife, Callie Coker; his children, Tatum Coker, Beau Coker, Marlie Kelly, and Maizy Kelly; his father, Sam Coker, Sr.; his brother, Seth Coker (Mary Ann); nephewsand niece, Knox Coker, Caroline Coker, and Charlie Coker; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who loved him deeply.

Sam was preceded in death by his mother, Tina Greene Coker; and his grandparents, Mountain Greene, Geneva Adams (Leon), Margaret Taylor, and Charles Coker (Betty Ray).

Sam’s life was far too short, but the impact he made was immeasurable. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he gave so freely, the joy he brought to others, and the way he made people feel simply by being in his presence. His memory will live on through his children, his family, his friends, and in the countless lives made better because they knew him. There is comfort in knowing that, after only a short time apart, Sam is now reunited with his mother, Tina, whom he loved and missed so deeply.
