Obituary

Mr. Steven Jerome Cherry, age 78, of Thomaston, died Monday October 28, 2024, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Cherry was born on May 24, 1946, in Thomaston, to the late Felton James Cherry, and the late Annie Glindin Cherry.  He served his country in the US Marine Corps and later retired from Thomaston Mills (Thomaston plant).  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife and love of his life Frances Morris (Bentley); daughter, Glenda Day; and brothers, Wayne and Bobby Cherry.

Steven enjoyed playing guitar, sketching and drawing, building model cars, fishing, watching his favorite movies and TV shows and spending time with his adored fur babies, Pebbles and Mercy. He loved anything Elvis.  Steven met his love and soulmate Frances at a dance, and said he loved her the moment he saw her, and felt as he said, "his heart pitter patter", so he asked her to dance to her favorite song "blueberry hill". They were inseparable ever since. They loved and understood each other completely. Steven, a man who taught Frances the true meaning of commitment and joy of a life, and shared laughter and love with her. Frances' unconditional love, patience, understanding and compassion for Steve lasted until she passed away in 2023. Steven and Frances began their second dance on October 28th, 2024.

Steve loved spending time with family; whether it be holiday get togethers, going out to eat, or just sitting watching movies together. Steven had a sense of humor that some didn't get right away, but he was definitely one of the funniest, sweetest, and gentle of souls. Steven will be missed immensely here on earth, but, with his faith in the lord and knowing that this earthly life is just the first stage of our eternal life, and we will all be together again.

Survivors include his daughter, Melinda (Jeff) Lyda; son, Felton Cherry; sister, Peggy (John) Bolotin; grandchildren, Dana Cochran (Michael), Daniel Cochran (Jessica), Victoria Gilbert, Joshua Day and Michael Sporleder, Nathan and Corey Coe, Skye and Hunter Cherry; great grandchildren, Alissa (DeVante) Lynch, Breanna Bishop, Liama and Autumn; and many nieces and nephews.
